Welcome Home Ride

We took a little ride right before Christmas. Let me tell you about it.

Back in early December a thread was started on the VMC by one of our local boys serving in the Navy. Shannon (jackpot_shedd on the VMC), stationed in Jacksonville, was coming home to Danville for the holidays and he was bringing the scoot. Well, never missing a chance to ride, Chick gets the wheels to turning on a “Welcome Home Ride”. Being the holidays the response was understandably light; or so we thought.

It looked like it was going to be just the Chick and I along with Shannon. But,

Karen checked the forum on the morning of the ride and found where Mark was wanting to join and when we got to RCPS where we were to meet Shannon, Jamie was there as well. That was good to see and it was but just a minute or two and Scotts handing me the phone; it was Russell, he wanted to come along. Well, alright! With the coordination all set we head out to meet up with the others at Mark’ place in Fayetteville. When we get there, Juan has joined as well. We spent a few minutes at Mark’s while I drank a nice cup of coffee and we all warmed up a little. The weather forecast was calling a for a high of 60 but it wasn’t looking good. Of course, Juan, Mark and Russell being Army

guys had to take the opportunity to rag Shannon a little since he was a Navy guy and all. Although I must say Shannon held his own and gave right back. Once on the road we took 231 out of Fayetteville and hit 129 over to Lynchburg. A very nice ride even though it was a little chilly. Now, we have been to Lynchburg countless times but its always a nice ride, caters to the bikers, and since Shannon had never been, made for a good enough reason to make a return visit.

square, Russell’s Vision immediately drew attention. Several people stopped on their way by asking questions about it. In fact later when we made our way down to Lynchburg Choppers, the owner, after noticing our Victory logos made mention that there was a Vision reported on the square. Word gets around fast I guess.

It wasn’t long after we parked and Jamie noticed the Elk River Coffee Shop. Sounded like an excellent way to knock the chill off, so we headed over for a cup. We shared some nice conversation as we enjoyed our beverage of choice and then

made our way down the square to Judy’s for some last minute Christmas shopping. I got to buy the Chick a new black leather purse for Christmas. Thanks goes to the Chick for allowing me to do that.

The Chick and I along with Shannon and Jamie decided to make a way over to the distillery and take the tour. Jamie and Shannon had never been on the tour so they were wanting to go and the Chick and I, never missing a chance to get a good sniff of the recipe, agreed. The rest of the group opted to visit a few more shops and head on back.

We bid our farewells to the rest of the group and walked over to Karen’s cousin’s place. Yep, there’s talk in her family of a relationship with the ole Jack himself on her Daniel side. Many of her ancestors come from the Lincoln and Moore Counties of Tennessee but she's still doing the research on the tie in. Anyway, we enjoy the tour and then do a little more window shopping before heading back ourselves.

By the time we start back its misting rain and has gotten a little colder. Just bad enough to be annoying. We make it back to Fayetteville for a gas stop and then head out down 110 and back home. It was a short ride but a good ride and nice to meet and spend some time with another Victory rider and local boy. Thanks to all those who joined us and a special thanks to Shannon for his service to our country. We look forward to the next ride when he returns home for a visit and maybe then it will be a little warmer. Shannon, let us know when that new little one arrives and tell the wife we look forward to her coming along next time. Until next time, ride safe!
