Megan Harmon Poker Run

The morning started out with a breakfast for the workers when we meet at B & B Crossroads. Each of us had our fill of country ham, eggs, biscuit and gravy, hash browns and other goodies.

By 9:00 we were all gathered at Halftime for last minute instructions. The day was perfect for a run considering the days leading up and what was to follow in the way of weather. It was to be in the mid 60’s all day. Registration was scheduled for 10:00 till 11:00 but by 9:30 the bikes started rolling in. From 9:30 till 12:00 there was a steady stream and the fear of low turn-out started to subside.

With the big wave out on the road the activity at Half Time eased some. Karen, Pam and Paris, joined by Rhonda a little later  made the sign-up a breeze and kept the line moving. David and I supervised from the sidelines and ran the camera for most of the time keeping out of the girls business much to their approval.  Jeannie and Roy took the dealer slots at the Humidor, joined by Glen. Over at Cycle Nation Tim along with Tosh and Susan kept the momentum going passing them over to Kevin, Tom and Mikey at Rocket Harley. Russell, with Megan riding backup made the rounds giving her a chance to take it all in.

We had some stranglers all during the afternoon but by 1:30 most of the runners were either back or on their way.

Megan made her rounds in 10th Anniversary Style!

We called in the Marines!

David and I took a quick ride over to Rocket and man what a perfect day it was. I guess the Lord saw the worthiness of our cause and decided to bless us with some custom made biker weather.

By the time we got back the place was jumpin’. With the crowd growing, the staff was a little short-handed so Pam decides to help. The next thing I know she comes by me with her cleavage bulging with bills. Lots and lots of bills! With every table she handled appreciation was given and she gave as well, emptying the contents when she passed by the money box on her way back for more. David turns to me as says, ”get her a job at Jimmy’s, she could bring home say, $200.00 a night in tips; that’s $1000 a week, hell in a few months

I could pay for my new bike!”

Around 2:30 the buffet table was set-up and we all had a little bar-b-que plate to soak up some of the beer and adult beverages. That baked potato salad was good!

When Russell returned from the Humidor with their donations the raffle got started. We had an assortment of bike accessories as well as smokes for the cigar lovers and believe me from the auction that ensued we had a bunch with us that day. With all the prize donations we received from the businesses around town the raffle lasted a good hour followed by the auction. We had not planned for an auction but a lot of the cigars that were won in the raffle were donated back by those that did not smoke. Many of those riders attending knew the quality of the Humidor smokes and opened their wallets for a chance at the offerings. Even David got into a bidding war over a box Much to Pam’s surprise. He don’t even smoke cigars! I think he ended up with the winning bid of $150.00. Turns out he loves auctions especially the bidding process and sometimes gets carried away. It was for a good cause and he gave them to his boss who can appreciate a good smoke.

The winning poker hand belong to Cindy from B&B Crossroads. After Russell presented her with the prize money

she took out enough to pay here tab and handed the rest back. Thanks Cindy. A real class act!

Russell gave Megan the floor and she gave a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their generosity. All during the day she sat with the girls at the sign-in table, except for the ride on Russell’s vision to the various stops, taking it all in and talking with any and all of the riders that came up.

With all the festivities completed we called it day. I have to admit I was a little skeptical of our hopes for a good outcome given the

present economy but that skepticism was washed away when the girls gave us the grand total. All told we raised a little over $3100.00 for the cause. As it turns out the knee joint she needs had a price tag of $3500.00. When Pam, Karen a Russell delivered the check to Fouroux they were told that several people had made private donations as well so I believe she is real close to having the whole $3500.00.

Great job people! Thanks to all those from the Heart of Dixie Victory Riders that donated their time and efforts to make this successful. A big thank you goes out to all the riders that supported our efforts with their time and money. Thanks to all the local businesses: Cycle Nation, Rocket Harley, The Humidor Pipe Shop, The Artisan’s Salon, 29 Dreams,  B&B Crossroads and Half Time Bar and Grill  for all that they  contributed. I know Megan appreciates it much more than you will ever know.

Give me hug girl!

The winning hand!
